Shiloh Wallacedene
Project Description
Shiloh Wallacedene – Wallacedene is an informal housing settlement in the eastern suburbs of Cape Town, South Africa.
Shiloh’s involvement in Wallacedene started more than 25 years ago with a soup kitchen. We were privileged to open our first JES (Jubilee Excellence School) in January 2017. This enabled us to provide early childhood education to many children between the ages of 3 and 6 years of age. It proved that a child deprived of Early Childhood Education struggles when going to Primary School. Which results in school drop-out in many cases when they reach Secondary School.
Jubilee Excellent Schools – The unique -JES curriculum is used at these schools. We pride ourselves in a outstanding curriculum. This curriculum aims to prepare children not only for primary school but for life. They are taught how to deal with situations they will encounter in real life. Attention is also given to their needs on a wider spectrum than merely the intellectual. The programme is aimed at all infants in Wallacedene: Afrikaans, Xhosa and English speaking, between the ages of 3 to 6 years. The quality of the facility and programme is noticeable from the moment one arrives, as their motto states cleanness, excellence and order.
Our Vision – Our pre-schools do not only benefit the children. Women from the community are trained as teachers. This project provides employment opportunities, while impacting the community as a whole, as the premises are used for other upliftment programs.
