While we are waiting to open a JES school in Sunny Side, De Doorns, we have identified the need on many of the farms for an interim school. Alcohol abuse and absent parents present a huge challenge in this community. Many children are not attending schools and those that are, are often not being adequately prepared for Grade R. When these children are enrolled in Grade 1, they start with a very big disadvantage which is often never eliminated.
Therefore we opened a JES classroom on one of these farms where children between the ages of 3 and 5 are being educated and given a love for learning. We are also focusing on establishing their identities in Christ.
Currently we host 5 teachers and 35 children.
