Shiloh History
A Heart for Uplifting: The Shiloh Synergy Story
Ever wondered what happens when different streams flow into one powerful river? That’s a bit like the story of Shiloh Synergy. Rooted in the shared dream of bringing hope and real change to communities in the Western Cape, (and now in South Africa,) three passionate organizations joined forces, creating a company dedicated to changing lives and bringing hope to build a better future, for many.
What we are all about:
Shiloh’s approach is to establish Early Childhood and Community Development (ECD) Centre’s that create a platform where not only learners from the age of 3 to 6 can be accommodated with world-class education, but also to provide a platform for job creation. Essentially, these hubs become sustainable “Centres of Hope” for the community at large. They move each community away from a poverty mentality and restore dignity by allowing individuals to earn a living and provide for their families in a dignified manner.
Our Values for staff, teachers and learners alike: Respect, Discipline, Critical Thinking, Problem solving and Intrinsic Motivation.
A JOURNEY OF GROWTH:
Where it all started:
Shiloh Wallacedene
In 1993, Pastor Nanda Govender, who was ministering in the Wallacedene settlement in Cape Town North, met Andre Beeton. Following much prayer and deliberation with Christian friends, they initiated a working committee. This organization, which began as the WALLACEDENE SOUP KITCHEN in May 1995, aimed to express the love of Jesus Christ by providing soup to the children of the Wallacedene and Bloekombos informal settlements. The initial donation of R185.00 barely covered the ingredients for the first day. This led to the establishment of the SHILOH CHRISTIAN UPLIFTMENT CENTRE, which was registered as an NPO in 1997.
Consequently, Shiloh Christian Upliftment Centre was renamed SHILOH SYNERGY in 2010, and a Head Office was established to provide shared services among the three different initiatives.
Shiloh Food
In 2002, Danie Heyns and a group of farmers and business persons formed Community in Action (CIA), a large-scale food processing kitchen with the vision of producing nutritious meals for crèches, soup kitchens, feeding schemes, night shelters, and other organizations serving the hungry. In 2011, CIA merged with Shiloh Christian Upliftment Centre, and in 2014, CIA’s name was changed to Shiloh Food.
Shiloh Klipheuwel
Schalk Burger burdened for the stranded community of Klipheuwel, was impressed by God to reach 1 000 000 throughout South Africa with world-class early childhood education (ECD). In March 2006, the first ECD School was established in Klipheuwel, implementing the JES curriculum, which incorporates elements from Montessori, Jubilee Excellence, and the national curriculum. MASINCEDISANE KLIPHEUWEL merged with Shiloh Upliftment Centre in 2010 and was subsequently renamed Shiloh Klipheuwel.
Shiloh Prince Albert, featuring a Jubilee Excellence School with upliftment projects, followed, and a school building was erected on land on the outskirts of Prince Albert. In Wallacedene, two Jubilee Excellence Schools were erected on two different sites in the informal settlement on the outskirts of Kraaifontein, Cape Town, in January 2017.
Shiloh Education has since added 11 more schools using the JES (Jubilee Excellence Schools) to our list, reaching as far as Thabazimbi, Hope Town, and Prieska. These schools act as NON-Shiloh Schools and operate independently from Shiloh.
Altogether there are currently 14 Pre-schools using the JES Curriculum with great results.
A Renewed Focus:
April 2025 marks an exciting new chapter for Shiloh Synergy. Recognizing the profound impact of our early childhood development programmes and community development work, we’re now directing100% of our energy and resources into these core areas. Our ECD reach is rapidly growing, spanning three provinces, and our dedicated team is focused on expanding our mission to equip even more children with an excellent education, fostering self-reliance and future success.
As part of this focused approach, Shiloh Food is now integrated directly into our Education Centres, allowing us to serve our learners and their communities even more effectively. We will no longer be outsourcing our food services.
Growing Together:
Our growth based on a clear vision and strong partnerships. We actively seek opportunities to become more deeply involved in various communities through our own initiatives and by serving as a bridge for new collaborations.
We achieve our goals by:
• Partnering with like-minded individuals, organizations, and communities to create impactful projects.
• Building schools and centres of excellence that serve as beacons of hope.
• Sharing our values through every project, action, staff member, and partner, working together to build capacity and sustainability.
Shiloh Synergy is a registered Non-Profit Company, recognized for tax-deductible donations (in South Africa) and B-BBEE compliant. We believe that by joining hands and working together, we can truly make a lasting difference.
